Engelberg IP Global Feeder Fund - Dec 19

2020/02/20 00:00:00
December was a great month for risk assets as sentiment turned overly positive after the US and China reached a phase one deal. The S&P500 rallied over 2.8%. Global markets followed with the MSCI World Index gaining 3%. Emerging markets significantly outperformed equities reacted extremely well to the phase one deal gaining over 8% for the month. The rand appreciated significantly against the US dollar in December on renewed emerging market risk appetite and broad based emerging market currecny strength. The ALBI gained 1.89% for the month as investors took advantage of the high yield on offer on South African government bonds. The currency should remain volatile leading up to Moody's downgrade decision and the budget speech. The ALSI gained over 3% for the month with the resources sector being the greatest contributor to the performance.
  • Fund focus and objective
The Engelberg BCI Global Feeder Fund aims to provide investors with a balance between capital preservation and capital growth through the entire investment cycle. The investment objective is achieved through a diversified global portfolio that invests across a broad range of asset classes and currencies in varying proportions over time. These asset classes include global equities, fixed income, property, infrastructure, money market instruments as well as securities that provide exposure to commodities.
The portfolio will apart from assets in liquid form, invest solely in the participatory interests of the Engelberg Global Fund IC Limited, a cell incorporated under the Momentum Mutual Fund ICC Limited, domiciled in Guernsey. The underlying portfolio is ideally suited to investors with a medium risk tolerance and an investment horizon of 3 years or longer. To the extent that the assets in the portfolio are exposed to exchange rate risk, the manager may enter into financial transactions for the exclusive purpose of hedging such exchange rate risk subject to the conditions and limits as stipulated by the Act.
Nothing in this Supplemental Deed shall preclude the manager and the underlying manager from varying the ratios of securities or assets in liquid form in a changing economic environment or market conditions, or to meet the requirements in terms of legislation and from retaining cash or placing cash on deposit in terms of the Deed and this Supplemental Deed. The Trustee shall ensure that the investment policy set out in this Supplemental Deed is carried out. For the purpose of this portfolio, the manager shall reserve the right to close the portfolio to new investors on a date determined by the manager. This will be done in order to be able to manage the portfolio in accordance with its mandate.
The manager may, once a portfolio has been closed, open that portfolio again to new investors on a date determined by the manager.
