Frank Sibiya
Frank joined Customised Solutions in September 2009 as an Investment Analyst before becoming an Index Portfolio Manager in 2012. He is responsible for managing both local and international tracker funds. He has eight years industry experience specialising in managing funds in Africa, and Emerging Markets.Prior to joining Customised Solutions, he was a lecturer at Tshwane University of Technology (Mathematics and Statistics Department) for five years. Frank also worked as a research assistant for Siyazi-SA Consulting, under operations risk management.
Bernisha Lala
Bernisha joined Old Mutual Customised Solutions as an Indexation Portfolio Manager in 2017. Her responsibilities include indexation portfolio management, optimisation and implementation.Prior to this role she held positions as both a quantitative analyst and portfolio manager at Taquanta Asset Managers, working on both the passive and active product offerings. Bernisha joined Nedbank in 2005 as a quantitative analyst and worked in the Corporate Ratings unit. She also worked as an assistant lecturer in the Department of Statistics at the University of Pretoria. Bernisha has 12 years of work experience in the investment industry.

The Old Mutual Top 40 Index Fund tracks the FTSE/ JSE Top 40 Index and its shareholdings replicate the constituents that make up this benchmark. At month-end the benchmark sector allocation was as follows: • Resources : 30.86% • Financials : 19.53% • Property : 1.91% • Industrials : 47.66%
Cash exposure is kept as low as possible to give investors the full benefi t of being invested in equities. Investment fl ows are matched with the corresponding market transactions on a daily basis to ensure that the performance of the fund is in line with its benchmark. Futures contracts are used, when appropriate, to minimise trading costs and gain exposure to equities.
Long-term investors choose this fund because they are looking for a pure equity fund and are cost-conscious. Investors seeking consistency can use this fund as their core portfolio strategy and assign smaller portions to other investment vehicles that aim to outperform the market.
The FTSE/JSE Top 40 Index returned -5.22% over the quarter and 0.01% for the month of September 2019. The mid- and small cap indices returned -1.81% and -3.22% respectively for the quarter and -0.17% and 2.21% respectively for the month of September 2019. All the sectors were down for the quarter, with telecommunications (-7.77%) and fi nancials (-6.76%) being the worst performers.
Amongst the top performing shares for the quarter were Impala, Sibanye Gold and British Am Tobacco with returns of 36.6%, 25.2% and 13.7% respectively. The worst performing shares were Naspers, Sasol Ltd and Exxaro with returns of -32.9%, -27.7% and -24.1% respectively. The fund rebalances once every quarter in line with the index. There was one constituent addition to and one constituent deletion from the FTSE/ JSE Top 40 Index, which rebalanced as at close on Friday, 20 September 2019.

The fund aims to provide long-term capital growth by tracking the performance of the top 40 companies listed on the JSE Securities Exchange (JSE).
This fund is suitable for investors who want to grow capital over the long term by tracking the FTSE/JSE Top 40 Index. The investor can tolerate stock market volatility.
The fund tracks the FTSE/JSE Top 40 Index as closely as possible and invests in shares included in the index. The portfolio is tailored to match the performance of the FTSE/JSE Top 40 Index, but other securities will be held to offset high inflows and index fluctuations. Derivatives may be used for efficient portfolio management purposes.
