Ryan Basdeo
After beginning his career as a financial accountant in the employee benefits industry, Ryan joined STANLIB Asset Management in their Institutional Pricing team in 2008. He got experience in the Offshore Trades Processing team from 2010, before moving on to Alternative Investments as market maker for the ETFs and executing trades for the index-tracking funds, as well as assistance with portfolio management. He was appointed a Portfolio Manager in 2017. Ryan has a BCom in Taxation degree, is a JSE Registered Securities Trader, as well as a Registered Bond Trader and has been awarded a MBA from Wits Business School.
Ann Sebastian
Possessing a very strong academic record and a passion for financial markets, Ann joined the Beta Quants team in 2012. As a quantitative analyst, she specialises in asset allocation, portfolio construction, investment risk management and multi-factor risk modelling. She is currently a Portfolio manager at STANLIB Index Investmentsresponsible for the management of R 22 billion across quantitative enhanced index funds, smart beta funds, completion strategies and index tracking fund across a number of asset classes. Ann studied at Wits University, where she took a BSc in Mathematical Sciences with double majors in Pure Mathematics and Economic Sciences. She then went on to do her BSc honours degree studying Advanced Mathematics of Finance. She is currently studying towards a MSc in Statistical Science from UCT where her thesis covers 'Tactical Asset Allocation with Flexible Investor Views'.

1NVEST Capped Property Index Tracker Fund - Dec 19

The fund has performed in-line with its benchmark over the quarter. The last FTSE/JSE rebalance saw the index remain the same, with no additions or deletions of constituents. The fund benefited from its exposure to Sirius Real Estate, NEPI Rockcastle and Liberty Two Degrees, which were the top three performers, with Sirius Real Estate returning 14.3%. However, exposure to Intu Properties, MAS Real Estate and Attacq detracted from performance, as these were the three worst performers. Intu Properties returned -45.7% over the quarter.
  • Fund focus and objective  
The investment objective of the 1NVEST CAPPED PROPERTY INDEX TRACKER FUND is to fully replicate the capital and income return of the FTSE/ JSE Capped Property Index. The FTSE/ JSE Capped Property Index caps any individual company's weighting in the index at 15% to increase the diversification of the fund relative to a market capitalisation weighted index.
In order to achieve this objective, the 1NVEST CAPPED PROPERTY INDEX TRACKER FUND will invest in 20 equity securities listed and traded on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and forming part of the FTSE/ JSE Capped Property Index.The manager will, at all times, endeavour to track the performance of the index by replicating its constituents, in their correct weightings as closely as possible. In the ordinary course of business the manager anticipates a tracking error of approximately 25 basis points (0.25%).The manager may from time to time invest in participatory interests or any other form of participation in portfolios of collective investment schemes or other similar collective investment schemes as the Act may allow from time to time, and which are consistent with the portfolio's investment policy.
The STANLIB CAPPED PROPERTY INDEX TRACKER FUND may from time to time invest in both listed and unlisted financial instruments, in accordance with the provisions of the Act, in order to achieve the portfolio's investment objective.
For the purpose of the STANLIB CAPPEDPROPERTY INDEX TRACKER FUND, the manager shall reserve the right to close the portfolio to new investors on a date determined by the manager. This will be done in order to be able to manage the fund in accordance with its mandate. The manager may, once a portfolio has been closed, open that portfolio again to new investors on a date determined by the manager.The Trustee shall ensure that the investment policy set out in this Supplemental Deed is carried out.
